Where do children get the idea that dad will fix everything they break?

I don’t know? Emma (4yrs old) has a bowl where every time she breaks something she puts the broken item in it. It’s almost as if she excited to add something to the “dad will fix it bowl.” If Esther (2 yrs old) or Laura breaks something during the day when I’m at work; Emma quickly reassures them, “don’t worry Dad will fix it.” I never realized when I got married and had kid’s that I would have another part-time of job of simply fixing everything my family breaks when I’m at work.

Sometimes Emma even Facetime’s me at work to let me know all the new things that I need to fix! I I’m not going to pretend that I’m excited about all the girly stuff I have to glue when I get home. But what comes around goes around. Because when I break things in my own house like the boiler or there’s a clog in the water line, the first person I call is my Dad. Guess what? Dad will fix it!

Half of the time the reality is: I can’t or just don’t want to fix it whatever got busted during the day. I mean, does the prince really need to have a head? I can’t say I enjoy this part-time job, but I don’t want to let down that four-year old that believes Dad will fix it. Well…gotta go, because even as I write this, Ether is approaching me saying broke broke broke. And of course Emma responds, “Don’t worry Esther, dad will fix it.”
