The outdoor living space of your home can easily become the favorite spot to gather with friends and family and to make lasting memories. However, in order to do so, it needs to be welcoming and comfortable in how it is set up and in how the space is utilized. Incorporate one or more of the following trends to your yard or patio and watch as it transforms into a fun and beautiful place in which to spend time and that impresses all who visit. It’s time to stun your friends and family with your new and beautiful space.

Creative garden displays

If you’re convinced that your plants and flowers must remain firmly planted on solid ground, think again! Rather than only display the flora of your yard in flowerpots on the deck or in the flowerbeds across the lawn, get creative with how you show it all off. Create a hanging garden, or plant blooms in a flower box that you hang from the outside of one of your home’s windows. Make the common concept of including plants in your outdoor living space less common by putting together creative displays.

Lighting that charms

Your outdoor living space certainly needs good lighting in order to keep entertaining once the sun goes down. Hang trendy string lights across the yard or add pendant light fixtures to dangle over the eating area of your patio. Allow your home’s outdoor space to be just as beautiful at night time as it is during the day by being properly and stylishly illuminated. Don’t write off solar lights either which are free to run and bright and cheering.

Incorporate an outdoor rug

When it comes to decorating your outdoor living space and making it inviting for all its guests, don’t forget about the floor space. Add some texture and design by putting down a great outdoor rug. Give the patio a pop of color with a brilliant shade or the chance to be a conversation starter with a rug in a fun pattern. Try to select a washable rug so that it can be easily cleaned.

Seating with contrasting color

The color block trend is everywhere right now, from fashion to furnishings. Put it to work in your outdoor living space as well. By choosing throw pillows for your outdoor seating (or the outdoor seating itself) in two or more contrasting hues, you can make the decor really stand out from the surrounding scene and make it compel people to sit down, relax, and enjoy the space.

Water features

Even without spending big bucks to put in a pool or spa if your backyard does not already have one, your outdoor living space can have its own water feature. Add a birdbath to the space or a little fountain to the garden. A simple water feature in your yard will serve as a calming addition to the ambience of the yard and really make a statement in its decor.

Vegetable gardens

With the concept of “urban farming” growing in popularity, so is the age-old idea of having a vegetable garden in your backyard. Plant edible, hardy things like spinach, carrots, and cabbage. Your outdoor living space will be prettier for it with greenery they add, plus serve another purpose in providing you and your loved ones with sustenance to collect and eat.

Natural materials

Rather than using cold, unnatural elements like concrete and iron in the design of your outdoor living space, opt for more natural and inviting ones like wood and stone. For a new deck in the backyard, mix some stone or slate into its surface instead of just a flat slab of concrete that lacks texture. The same idea goes for an outdoor fireplace or for the makeup of the furniture you select. Incorporate natural elements in order to make your space more cozy and one with the natural landscape.

Mosaic elements

A mosaic feature on a piece of furniture or decor in your yard can add just the right amount of interesting design and colorful vibrancy to the overall theme. Choose a table with a top that is a mosaic or craft your own mosaic piece on a bird bath, flowerpot, or on stepping stones to form a walkway.

Try some of today’s top trends in your home’s outdoor living space. See how they can transform your space into one you never want to leave. Give it life and that “wow” factor that will have everyone talking about it by incorporating the right greenery, furniture, and overall design.
