Plant a few sunflower seeds this year. And do it soon. You’ll be happy you did!

1) Find a spot with full-sun. We’re talking 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
2) Keep sheltered from the wind. They’re perfect propped up on the side of a house, alongside a fence or behind a row of study trees.
3) Don’t let them shade other parts of your garden….they get really tall!!
4) Sunflowers prefer a slightly acidic to somewhat alkaline soil with a PH between 6.0 and 7.5
5) Fairly hardy and resilient, they still don’t like flooded soil. Proper drainage is a must!
6) They’ve heavy feeders and deplete the soil more than other crops. [They’re huuuuuge after all] So don’t plant too close to your veggies! T

We’re going to plant a few propped up against our fence, right into the ground. This way, they won’t steal nutrients from our vegetable. Oddly enough, it’s Tom who insistent about growing sunflowers this year. Go figure.
