In April, Tom and I rescued two two-year-old dachshunds.
They do not listen. Dachshunds just don’t. Cute yes. Listen no. Frustrating!
But even worse, disobedience can be downright dangerous not to mention stressful.
If a dachshund spots a squirrel or rabbit they want to chase…off they go. They’ll dash right across a street into the neighbors’ yard. It could be hours before you find them!
Tom started researching how to solve this problem. He stumbled across these GPS tracking devices from Whistle.
Becoming instantly smitten with the GPS tracking concept, Tom said from the get-go that Whistle made the best ones on the market.
Many of you, my wonderful readers are dog and cat people so these devices will be spot-on for you, too! Literally “spot-on” as you will LOVE the night light on these devices.
And if you’ve ever wanted to monitor the sleeping, licking and scratching habits of your pet while pinpointing their exact location….Whistle is for you!

What is Whistle?
Whistle GO and Whistle GO Explore are GPS tracking devices that the pet wears on their collar.
Innovative technology that combines the power of GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular technology to create the most superior tracking device on the market. So yes…there’s an app for that!
Both Whistle GO and Whistle GO Explore allow you to pinpoint your pet’s precise location with real-time tracking.
The Whistle app sends alerts and notifications to your phone telling you exactly where your pet is.
You establish safe place locations via the Whistle app that might include home, vacation home, dog sitter’s, grandma’s, et cetera. Create as many safe places as you like!
When “Fido” leaves a Safe Place location or returns to a Safe Place location, you’ll be in the know when you receive a notification on your phone.
Don’t you wish they made these for your kids? That wasn’t a joke!

When connected to Wi-Fi, the Whistle GO is always in power-save mode, using very little battery power!
These devices also track their fitness and monitors their health!
So both devices monitor behaviors that may be early-warning signs of potential health issues.
You can also track fitness goals based on age, weight, and breed. There are weekly reports that summarize your pet’s activities and insights.
Whistle GO Explore has a long battery life (up to 20 days on a single charge) and includes a built-in light that is so useful for early morning and evening walks.
Also convenient if your dog/dogs blend in with the brush and trees on walks. You can actually spot them with the light flickering on their neck!
Tom’s Whistle Go Explore video explains it all!
The leash life…why you need Whistle
The leash life is no life for dogs.
There’s nothing more pleasurable for a dog than frolicking in a field untethered. Equally pleasurable is the joy dog owners get watching their dogs live their life off a leash.
Let’s face it. One scent of a deer or skunk and that dog can be miles from you in a matter of minutes.
True of both our dachshunds, Dibs and Twix. Overall, Dibs comes back when Tom calls for her whereas Twix tends to wander too far.
So life wasn’t fair. We let Dibs off the leash but Twix always had to stay on a leash. Sad for an inquisitive and lively dachshund.
Besides, dogs need a lot of exercise and they don’t get the same amount of physical activity on a leash as opposed to off.
And when your doggies chase that skunk and get stinky, it’s time to get wet. Either with a bath or a dunk in the pool.
Whistle has your back covered yet again. Because these devices are waterproof! So if you have little swimmers~ Whistle can get wet.
We’re talking devices that can be submerged 6 feet deep! And swimming is excellent exercise for us all!

Saving time with Whistle
I shudder thinking about how much of my life I’ve spent wasted looking for a lost dog.
Nothing intentional, it’s just that dogs tend to wander. Life’s not perfect.
But not knowing where your dog is and fearing the worst is stressful. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been down this path.
In a split second, the dog dashes from the yard or strays from the hiking path and suddenly you have no clue where they are.
My heart just drops! The time alone. Running around the neighborhood like a maniac asking if they’ve seen my dog.
Tom and I remember a time when we spent 3 hours looking for Weenie, (our first dachshund) at my parent’s country house. No fun.
And how about on vacation? When you take the dogs with you. They are completely unfamiliar with this area so you want a tracker to keep them accountable.
Walking & Talking with Whistle
We go on lots of walks as a family. Exercise is good for us all! And of course, we run into other dog owners.
Dogs who are on a leash.
These dog owners always wonder how it is that our dogs, especially dachshunds can be let off the leash.
We show them the Whistle Go. And everyone wants more info! There goes 15 minutes!

A few small caveats
Whistle makes beautiful collars. Just gorgeous. Thick and high quality. Lovely patterns and styles.
The problem? They are too big and thick for tiny dogs. Both my dogs are 10 pounds. Too heavy for their tiny necks.
So my hope is that Whistle will consider making collars for more pint size dogs in the future! Little dogs get lost, too!
But it’s not a deal-breaker either as you can attach Whistle Go Explore to any collar you already have. The collars are just an added accessory you can buy.
Another item to make note of is the fact that you need a monthly subscription. If you pay yearly ($7.95/mo) or even for two years(6.95/mo) up front the cost goes down as opposed to $9.95/mo.
Finally…
I could rave on all day about how great Whistle Go is. We literally use these devices each and every day.
How many of you can make that claim with all the “stuff” you own. That you actually use it every day?
But peace of mind. That’s priceless. We can finally walk and hike with the family without the worry of loosing our pets.
Yes…even at dusk. You will not regret this purchase! Happy hiking!
