We know everything, right?

Yesterday morning I got a call from Laura because she had trouble starting the wood burning stove.

Today I received a call because the “mouse,” the one’s that uses batteries that connects wirelessly to the computer wasn’t working.

Laura has trouble lighting the wood burner because 99.9% of the time I do it for her and like anything in life, practice makes perfect. I figured it had to be warm enough today, right? Spring is here! Well, we do live in Buffalo and we are still going to have plenty of up and down days with the weather. The other part of her problem is that she refuses to use the torch. That’s how I light the fire. You don’t need starters, all you need is a big flame. I feel like “Tim the Tool Man Taylor.” Emma told me when I got home, “the house was filled with smoke when mom was trying to make the fire.” For better or worse you’ll always get the truth from Emma.

Batteries. I was able to walk her through this one. Yes the mouse is working again. Before I start patting myself on the back as I go through all the things that my family needs me for. I had to wonder, “are there simple things that I too need help with?”

Laundry

Before everyone starts ripping me. Yes, I know how to put clothes and detergent in and push the button. However, I can recall how I made a stain worse, how a shirt slightly shrunk, and folding forget it. That is in the same category as wrapping Christmas presents. Leave it to Laura.

Cooking

Overall, I’m not allowed to touch the stove. Except when I’m making one of my venison recipes, tuna fish salad, or something else just for the kids and myself. I make one mistake and ruin a pan in the process. Apparently that smooth finish on the bottom of the pan is supposed to always be there. Let me explain. I tried to make my sunny side eggs and forgot to spray the pan. Ochhhhhh. She wasn’t happy with me.

Weeding

One year I weed wacked several flowers. Now, I’m not allowed to weed wack around the flower beds. While Laura can gently pull out weeds when it’s been wet, the roots always seem to break on me. So, I get a shovel dig deep enough where there are no longer any attached roots and then pull them out. The problem? Once again. I need to know the difference between flowers and weeds!

That’s one of the major differences between men and women. We don’t like to ask for help. We’d rather screw up then say “honey am I doing this right?” So while I’d like to think I’m superman because my family needs me, we need Laura just as much. How about you? Don’t take for granted that special person that does the same routines all the time. Shock em. It’s not Valentine’s Day. That’s the one day we have to rise to the occasion. Simply say, “thanks for all you do.” 🙂
