Mulch is great when you want to retain soil moisture so that less water is lost through evaporation. It also keeps the soil warm, which benefits seedlings planted in early spring before the arrival of seasonal heat. Blah. Even better? It denies those stinkin’ weeds access to the light they need to germinate.
