three Spear Head Spades

Spear Head Spade for the win!

As a mom of 3 kids with one on the way, 2 dogs and a cat; you’d think I’d know better by now than to play favorites.

But it is not so. Spear Head Spade is my favorite. Period. When I head to the garage to get a gardening tool, I’m always reaching for a Spear Head Spade. The others simply will not do.

As a garden blogger, you can only imagine how many gardening tools are in my garage. Scary.

But it’s always the Spear Head Spade I use to get the job done. I’ve had a set of Spear Head Spade’s for roughly three years now and they never get old. Just dirtier!

Now it’s your turn to win a set of Spear Head Spades! ARV $140!I hope you win because these spades are real game-changers. Or should I say gardening-changers?

You will finally be motivated to get the task done. Promise.

How to enter to win.

Simply fill out the SweepWidget form at the very end of this post! I need a valid email address to contact you if you win.

Spear Head Spade

Garden problems….oh my!

We all have an ax to grind when it comes down to hard physical work. There can be no doubt toil can be a real pain in the neck, not to mention back.

So does any of the following describe your life?

1.) Your soil is clay and you have trouble digging in that thick, dense and sometimes even rocky soil.

2.) With a “cheap” shovel or spade, you’ve struggled to transplant, separate plants in your perennial bed or dig up weeds with thick roots? You eventually give up…?

3.) You love your yard and garden but wish you could put in less effort with less strain keeping it pristine. Why are you sore from working in the garden? Your aching back. Yikes.

Easy answer to all three……..enter Spear Head Spade.

It’s time to push an easy button and get yourself a set of Spear Head Spade’s to simplify life. These rough and tough shovel-ish spades cut through soil, rocks and clay with ease.

D grip handles on the Spear Head Spade

How Spear Head Spade is like Goldilocks & the 3 Bears….

So with three kids and another on the way, it’s tough not to be stuck fairytale mode most of the time. But stick with my analogy please!

Spear Head Spade is quite similar to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The three sizes are spot-on for the digger in your life.

Personally, I’m the mama bear who prefers the 40 inch SHFD3 with the short fiberglass handle. At just 3.5 pounds it’s super lightweight and I can easily tote it around the yard for various projects. Even pregnant!

Today’s big task? The front landscape is in desperate need of some weeding. Most of the weeds require to be dug up as I won’t be able to pull them out with my bare hands.

My husband? He wants nothing more than the 58 inch SHLF2 with the long fiberglass handle. At 6 ft 3 inches himself, the longer handle suits him to a tee.

But then there’s my kids who always snatch the SHmini from me at just 30 inches long. At 11 and 9 years old, they are my garden helpers and that size is fabulous for kids.

The mini is also nice for seniors due to its tiny stature. I love it for raised bed gardening work! The D handles on the short and mini have the ideal grip for me.

Trust me….you want all three of these beauties.

The mini is so spot-on for raised bed gardening, seniors and children!!

Color your world with Spear Head Spade

Ahhhhh. The colors of Spear Head Spade. Swoon.

At this time, it appears it’s the short Spear Head Spade that comes in different colors, but fingers crossed, maybe the long and mini will be multi-colored soon! (Although I think you can get the mini in red as well.)

Currently, the short spade comes in 5 alluring colors including the traditional yellow, red, teal, lime and lavender.

Of course I opted for lime. Where else are you going to get a lime gardening tool that is as fashionable as it is functional?

It’s like the gardening tool for vacationers!

With such bright colors, it’s certainly easy to spot your spade in the garage or shed, especially if your garage is messy or stuffed with plastic toys like ours is.

Seriously, colored gardening tools are all the rage right now and Spear Head Spade is right on trend!

Spear Head Spades

Head and Shoulders above the competition…

As a garden blogger, my garage is filled to the brim with gardening tools and gadgets. It can’t be helped!

But I find that when I have a job to do, I’m always reaching for my Spear Head Spade. And trust me, I have lots of choice.

It’s not something I think about, just instinctual. It works the best and is the easiest to use so it’s the one I grab in a pinch. That blade is so hard and thick!

So I’m not even sure who their competition is, but for me the preference is clear.

And Spear Head Spade is ageless and genderless. Male or female, you will love their tools. From 5 to 105 years-old, you will find the right Spear Head Spade to suit you.

Like the perfect pen in hand, is a Spear Head Spade. The grippy handle just feels “right.” They are so comfortable to use.

And don’t even get me started on the foot rest. Its generous forward bent is ideal.

Let’s talk about price

I don’t know about you, but $140 for a set of tools that I’m going to use three seasons out of the year for a lifetime is a done deal.

Spring, summer, fall, I have serious digging to do and I bet you do too! From weeding to planting to transplanting, the work never ends.

But it’s fun work…is it not? As long as you have the right tool for the job.

If you are going to start with one tool, I suggest you go with the SHFD3 at just $52. Once you try it, no doubt you’ll be buying it as a gift for all your gardening friends in their favorite color.

And you’ll end up buying the set when you see how effective Spear Head Spade tools are! You can buy right on their website or check out the various locations that sell Spear Head Spade.

We had a local garden show called Plantasia where I live and that’s how I first learned about them!

spade versus shovel

Finally….

So today’s burning question is this:

What is the difference between a shovel and a spade? I find it very easy to use the term interchangably but in fact, they are different.

So technically speaking…..Spear Head Spade is a shovelly spade. So I coined a new phase but it works. Because they are the best of both worlds.

The special Spear Head Spade shape has edges that are all 35 degrees beveled from tip to tail with a steel reinforced fiberglass handle.

And with Spear Head Spade…you have the D handle on the mini and short, while the SHLF2 has a straight handle. So it makes sense to have a set of three.

It’s all about personal preference. Grab the right one for the job you are trying to tackle.

Regardless….they are all so sharp. They dig through those tough roots and make life easier. Isn’t that what we all need?

Let’s make gardening fun again with Spear Head Spade!

Hubby and I love gardening. We planted a flower garden a few months ago. And then a fresh veggie garden which is my favorite. Nothing better than eating your own home grown fresh vegetables straight from your backyard. These shovels sound like just what I need for gardening! I must admit I do not own this type nor had I heard of them.

These spades sound like just what I need. Our soil is hard and full of rocks which makes for hard digging. It’s hard on my back and neck and my hands get blistered from struggling to dig. I never knew a better spade could make a difference. I like that they come in different lengths and have sharp edges.
