The magnificent Midtown Umbrellas
Of course, you can buy an umbrella anywhere, even in those dreaded “big box” stores. But will you get the quality and selection of a Midtown Umbrella? I highly doubt it.
Midtown Umbrellas sent me the “swilt” umbrella from their tilt fiberglass series.
The tilt umbrella comes with a unique swilt mechanism, letting you swivel and tilt the umbrella seamlessly. Built from high-grade rustproof aluminum and fiberglass ribs, this umbrella will last you a lifetime.
Those fiberglass ribs are flexible wind resistant rectangular ribs with custom rib connectors.
You also get great pricing. My husband and I went to several local pool stores to compare pricing. My Midtown Umbrella was much cheaper and of nicer quality than the umbrellas I saw at those stores.
The colors offered were also limited to bland tones which do not reflect my personality or style. Only two or three colors were offered.
With Midtown Umbrellas you get over 40 color choices to select from in varying sizes.
And even if you make the wrong choice in regards to size or color…..Midtown Umbrellas offers free returns. Yes, you heard that correctly. Free returns that are easy peasy.
All you have to do is print a prepaid return label, stick it on the box and drop the product off at any FedEx location.
So the 30-day money-back guarantee is special!
This is fear-free shopping at its best! Just note that cantilever umbrellas and bases are only free to ship back if damaged or broken.
Let’s talk about selection and size with Midtown Umbrellas!
Umbrellas have evolved over the past few years and Midtown Umbrellas offers choice like none other. They boast both fabulous design and innovative technology.
Featuring market umbrellas, tilt umbrellas, offset cantilever umbrellas, and wooden and beach umbrellas the selection is stupendous.
I like best-sellers and requested one of the company’s most popular umbrellas….drum roll please…”The Swilt” which is a tilt umbrella. No regrets here with this bold yellow beauty!
The first “umbrella” decision you have to make is size. How big of an umbrella would you like? “The Swilt” in the fiberglass series comes in 8, 9, or 10 feet going slightly up in price as the size climbs.
But they also make 6 or 7-foot umbrellas and can go as large as 10 by 10 feet. So ask yourself this vital question: how big of an umbrella do you need? How big of an area are you looking to cover with shade?
My stunning 8-foot umbrella is ideal for 4-6 dining sets, pool or lounge areas. I also stuck it over a few Polywood chairs for some much-needed shade! The area coverage is about 52 square feet.
Most likely, you’ll want a 9-foot umbrella for a 6-8 person dining set and a 10-foot umbrella for a 10-12 person dining set.
Don’t hesitate to check out Midtown Umbrellas diagrams complete with a size guide to learn more.
Always measure your space before ordering an umbrella! It takes the guesswork out and you’ll be happy you did!
A base that’s an ace!!!
You might already own furniture that comes with a pre-made hole that you will sink your new tilt umbrella in. That could work well as the pole fits most standard 1.5-inch diameter bases and holes.
No flimsy, cheap base will do. You want a sturdy and durable base that won’t topple over when that first gust of wind comes rolling in.
Midtown Umbrellas has an ace in the hole with a base that will not disappoint. At 55 pounds, it’s hefty.
Stability is what is required. This very wide square or round base will stay put keeping your umbrella well-anchored. No one wants their umbrella to fall on top of them due to a lightweight base.
In truth, the base looks a lot smaller in the online photos than in person measuring a humongous 19 x 19 inches according to my measurements.
It is also made out of powder-coated steel. In my experience, powder-coated steel withstands the elements better than other materials. So bring on the rain and sun. It will be totally fine!
Just as thrilling….it’s an attractive base, too. You can order a round or square base but I went with the square because it reflects my style more. But order what works for you and your dwelling!
The stand featured in this post is black which blends with anything. Midtown Umbrellas also makes white bases that are certainly easy on the eyes!
And you are going to appreciate that aluminum pole with a thick 2.5mm wall that is both rustproof and weather resistant.
Fabulous fabrics with Midtown Umbrellas!
Before you can choose a color, you have to decide whether you want the umbrella fabric to be of Terylast or Sunbrella.
While they both provide an amazing 98% UV protection and use the same solution-dyed method allowing for durability, Sunbrella is the premium fabric and does cost more.
I went with the Terylast fabric because I liked the 10-year limited warranty that protects one’s investment against fading, mold, or deterioration.
Terylast fabric is made from a very high-end solution-dyed polyester fabric. This fabric is designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions, therefore lasting an exceptionally long time.
Terylast also is silky to the touch and dries fairly quickly. While Sunbrella has earned its top-notch reputation, I found the Terylast to be an excellent choice as well.
Either way, you can’t go wrong. Both Terylast and Sunbrella are high-quality fabrics made to last a very long time. To the touch, they are also a much thicker fabric than you will get from no-name fabrics.
Midtown Umbrellas only uses the finest “ingredients” to make their umbrellas and stands!
Fast Fact about sun damage
Sun’s UV rays account for 80% of skin wrinkles and aging! Yikes!
Color your world with Midtown Umbrellas
Terylast and Sunbrella come in different shades and that’s important to note when selecting your final umbrella.
It’s possible that you “set your heart” on a shade in one line or the other and so will have to go with that fabric line to get your first choice.
There’s plenty of room to dream with a rainbow of hues to select from. With the Terylast line, I was flip-flopping between midnight, aqua, tangerine, and sunflower. No easy choice here as all are so vibrant.
I finally settled on the sunflower and love the color. Although it’s more muted than the online photos reflect, it is the exact same shade as the sunflowers I grow in my front yard. Quite inspiring!
Besides, I find when I take my umbrella out of the stand and use it with my chairs, it looks ravishing against my red and blue chairs. This exciting yellow brings out the bold color of the chairs for a tropical vibe.
Terylast has 24 choices to select from and don’t underestimate the power of a striped umbrella either. You will get raving compliments on that zebra one, I promise!
There are fewer choices with the Sunbrella line with 19 colors to drool over. My personal favorite is Aruba followed by the macaw and forest green.
Whether you go the Terylast or Sunbrella route, you have to determine what kind of space you are creating.
Beachy? Traditional? Fun? Coastal? Woodsy? Or just a neutral space? It’s up to your personality!
The “Swilt” so you don’t wilt!!
Our back patio is located in full sun with zero overhead protection. This is problematic for three reasons: 1.) the harsh UV rays 2.) the scorching sun 3.) rain and sleet.
Trust me, your skin will thank you in 10 years for investing in a good umbrella! Let’s prevent wrinkles together!
It’s also convenient to have an umbrella with kids who see no advantage to getting a tan and hate heat.
Babies in particular dislike the sun. I should know with a 9-month-old baby. Besides, sunscreen isn’t great for our skin. Most are loaded with toxic chemicals. Better to avoid the sun than apply sunscreen.
Asides from sun protection, a quality umbrella also keeps the rain away. Countless times I’ve sent my husband outside on to grill on our patio…..in the rain.
This does not make me popular! Now he does have a small hand umbrella to protect him from the rain. But because he’s holding the hand umbrella he only has one arm to grill. Not ideal.
When it is sunny, he’s not stuck over a hot grill in the blazing sun. Talk about a miserable man!
And of course, I get a little sun protection too as I watch him grill and chill with our baby. Because truly, our back patio is an oven all summer long. The heat is unbearable!
Many thanks, Midtown Umbrellas for sending me this fabulous umbrella and stand!!
Now you know…
There are air vents at the top of the umbrella which I assume are to increase air flow ~ and it’s the exact same with my Monstera Plant! There are holes in the leaves so they can survive tropical gusts!
The perks of Midtown Umbrellas
I’m saving the best for last here folks. The “swilt mechanism of the tilt allows you to rotate this umbrella and the opening/closing function.
When I want to open my umbrella, I simply turn that zinc alloy crank handle clockwise until it is fully opened. To swivel my umbrella, I push the bottom handle on the crank and rotate it to 360 degrees until it’s at the exact angle I wish it to be.
If wind is expected and I want to bunch the umbrella up, I simply crank it counter-clockwise. Presto. Done. The velcro strap keeps the umbrella closed tight.
The handle mechanism is sleek, smooth, and sophisticated. Flawless in its design! Well-done Midtown Umbrellas.
And shipped so quick. Because you know how life works. The second you place an order for a product online, you start peeking out your front window to see if it’s on your front porch.
I couldn’t believe how fast my umbrella and stand shipped from Midtown Umbrellas. It was ordered on a Friday afternoon and by Tuesday, the base arrived and by Wednesday the actual umbrella came.
So expect a super quick 5-day window for shipping. Almost instant gratification!
Last…read the reviews on Midtown Umbrellas for yourself. It’s like all their customers are totally raving about both their umbrellas and stands.
When I see that many positive reviews, I give myself the green light to order! Hope you order as well!

Thank you for this amazing giveaway! This would definitely come in handy in my backyard where don’t currently have anything to block the sun. I recently had a few friends over and felt so bad that they had to sit in the sweltering sun as I don’t gave a covered patio or an umbrella. Needless to say, we didnt last too long outside & retreated to the cooler indoors for the rest of the time. Midtown Umbrellassounds like a great brand with many versatile cjoices in colors and other options. I love the swilt that you picked out from their tilt fiberglass series! I would definitely choose that as well! And the sunflower color is always a good choice as it compliments all the colors of nature!

Been looking for a nice umbrella to go with my new patio set. Realizing we really have to get one with the intense heat at times.
A lot of people think that it rains all of the time in Oregon, but it doesn’t. In fact, we have gorgeous summers that make an umbrella necessary. The sun is very strong and days are long in the Pacific Northwest!

Hi! I’m kinda new around here (your site, that is). Loved reading about this umbrella, but also some of your other posts as well! My husband & I are from upstate, western New York also! I was born in Canandaigua, and my husband was born in Rochester, NY. Our favorite things to do when we lived there was take the kids swimming at Stoney Brook Park, or Letchworth Park in the summer. Do you know about the Lilac Festival in Rochester at Highland Park? We also loved that visiting Niagara Falls, Canada was a close and lovely get away for us when we lived in New York. Your tiny little one is so precious looking! Well, God bless all in your household. May you all enjoy a happy summer!

I never wanted an umbrella. We liked to bask in the sun and soak up the vitamin D. Nowadays, with the ozone layer, we have to protect ourselves from the harmful rays – I would buy an umbrella. This umbrella is big and pretty!! Thank you for the opportunity!!

The sun is strong where I live in Wisconsin. I do have trees, but none that shade my deck (and the leaves are many in the fall), so an umbrella is perfect so I can get some outdoor time.
