None of us intentionally wastes food. But it happens. Bad avocados happen to good people.
Life gets busy! Blink and there’s a liquid bag of salad lurking at the back of the fridge.
With rising food costs, I’ve vowed to do better and waste less. But I’ll never be 100%. I’m not perfect. You’re not perfect.
Besides unedible food scraps that never get consumed make excellent compost. Think kiwis peels, strawberry ends, potato peels, and cut-up orange rinds.
Your vegetable beds and indoor potted plants will thank you for this nutrient-rich fertilizer/compost created by Reencle!
We’re talking about quickly made compost here folks, with Reencle, you’re not waiting months for the compost to break down.

Installation of the Reencle
Installation of the Reencle is a breeze. Take the unit out of the box, find an ideal location, plug it in and press the power button. The machine should always be kept on.
Then add the microorganism (decomposing powder) into the stirring tank.
Pour 50-60 ounces of water in and close the cover. I used purified water and suggest you do the same for the initial setup.
After 18-24 hours add food waste! This time-lapse allows the microorganism to be activated which is how food gets decomposed in the Reencle.
When the lid is closed, the machine automatically stirs the food waste for optimal conditions. It’s warm to the touch, so you can tell that it’s breaking down the food scraps.
Bear in mind that you can’t throw in fruits and veggies, meats, fish, eggs, and dairy right away.
Start with bread, cooked rice, or chopped-up pasta. When you see these foods successfully changed into compost, you can gradually increase the amount and variety of food waste.
Try to stick with mostly carbs for the first month. After about a month, start to add fruits, vegetables, and protein.
This delay allows the self-perpetuating microorganism to work at full capacity (full-growth status) to break down foods more easily.
And you already know how much your garden loves fish scraps! It’s worth the wait!

Pros of the Reencle
The biggest pro of the Reencle is how you no longer feel guilty about throwing out or wasting food scraps. They now have a purpose~ the Reencle turns food scraps into garden compost.
A second huge pro of the Reencle is the microorganism (food cleaner) that comes with the machine. This dormant, freeze-dried microorganism makes the product low-maintenance.
The ReencleMicrobe doesn’t ever need to be replaced and can be used cycle after cycle.
When I purchase a new garden and home product, I always ask: will I have to buy expensive replacement parts, filters, or pods and plants in the months ahead to keep the product working?
Unlike many of Reencles competitors, there’s no need to buy pricey accessories in the future. This is because the microorganism included in the product is self-perpetuating.
Moreover, the Reencle indoor composter doesn’t smell. If you compost at home, the smell is a huge issue. Especially when you are attempting to compost in the kitchen where all the “food action” happens.
No one wants to eat in a stinky kitchen. Yuck! So the orderless Reencle is ideal. Mine is sited in the same area where I do my daily food prep. I can chop and toss scraps right into the machine as I work.

More pros of the Reencle…
I keep our Reencle in our kitchen/dining area, so after meals, the kids put their scraps into the Reencle. Easy breezy!
An attractive and modern-looking machine, the Reencle is a conversation starter at your next party!
The Reencle opens and shuts via an automatic motion sensor, so you never need to touch the unit making it sanitary. Use your foot or wave your hand for it to open. Presto! Done.
Or just push the open button if you wish. If you have kids and pets and want to lock the unit, there’s also a button for that function.
I lock the unit because I have a one-year-old baby who crawls so this mechanism keeps the baby safe.
The Reencle is a silent unit. You’re never aware the Reencle is in the room!
And it’s a small detail, but I LOVE how the shovel hangs on the side of the Reencle indoor composter. So convenient! It also comes with two easy-to-clean carbon filters.
The technology put into this amazing product is quite astounding for quick and effective indoor composting of food scraps.

Reencle tips of the trade!
Don’t overfill the machine. The optimal input amount of food waste is 1.5 pounds and the maximum amount should not exceed 2.2 pounds a day.
Divide the days you do prep work cutting up fruits and veggies. This helps you add the correct amount of food scraps each day.
Over time, you’ll discover how to get the microorganism looking like “fluffy soil” never too wet or too dry. If it does get too dry, add a little water. If it gets too mucky, that’s a bit more work!
Once the decomposed waste reaches the limit line, shovel it out along the minimum line. Never let the compost dip below the minimum line so that the ReenMicrobe can continue to self-perpetuate.
Feel free to add food scraps at any time. Reencle runs safely around the clock, so you don’t need to wait until it’s finished with earlier food scraps. Just scoop out the fertilizer when it’s looking full.
It is smart to clean the filter from time to time although it does come with a replacement filter.
Be aware that certain foods like watermelon rinds, orange peels, and banana peels will break down but will also take longer to break down than softer foods such as mashed-up squash, bread, and eggs.
Softer foods might be ready in just 2 hours in the Reencle while bulkier items might take that full 24 hours.
Insider tips of the Reencle indoor composter…
Cut up watermelon rinds, and orange and banana peels before placing them in the Reencle to make the decomposing process go quicker!

Cons of the Reencle
For me, the biggest con is the price. The Reencle is not cheap. But the Reencle is awesome so you’ll have to weigh the cost.
The Reencle works quickly and efficiently which helps offset the high price point.
This heated decomposing method is the only way I’ve discovered that actually turns food scraps into compost quickly.
Nothing else has worked for me! No other indoor composters, certainly not compost piles outside, and not expensive compost tumblers.
Those methods all take years to transform food scraps into fertile compost. I don’t have that long and neither do you!
A second con is that there is no bucket that lifts out of the machine to transport your compost to where it is needed.
While you are given a small and useful hand shovel, it’s your job to scoop the compost out of the unit into your own bucket and carry it to the garden.
Instead, I wait until it needs to be emptied and have Tom carry the unit right out to the garden to be emptied there. It leaves the mess outside instead of on my kitchen floor.
Not a deal breaker since the Reencle only weighs 20 pounds, (less than my cat) but I think this issue could be easily fixed.

Let’s talk about meat, fish, dairy, and eggs in the Reencle indoor composter
My whole life I’ve been brainwashed into thinking that meat, fish, dairy, and eggs simply aren’t compostable. Reencle has changed the way I think!
It’s true that if you throw these types of wastes into your garden, you are surely going to attract critters such as raccoons, rats, and possibly worse to your garden. No one wants that.
That’s my main issue with open compost piles. They smell and aren’t worth attracting unwanted wildlife. Not to mention bugs and insects! Besides, they take far too long to break down!
But with the Reencle, after the initial setup is established, you can actually add meat, fish, and dairy products like cheese and eggs. Unheard of! It certainly makes the Reencle different and better than the competition.
I might mostly stick with fruits and veggie scraps in mine. I will also not hesitate to add fish. Not sure about the sausage and salami yet, we will see!
To level with you, it has never occurred to me to compost cookies, bread, pasta, pizza crusts, or grains. But all are welcome in the Reencle indoor composter.

The composting life with Reencle…
The Reencle is the first home/indoor food waste composter that works for me.
You get compost typically within 24 hours. Winter is here. I scoop tiny bits of compost to top-dress my indoor plants.
And they LOVE it! Thriving from it! But I also top-dress with small amounts. If you choose to add more, mix 1/4 Reencyle compost with 3/4 indoor potting mix to repot plants.
In March, I will add compost to my outdoor veggie beds and outdoor potted plants to revitalize them. Green fingers crossed!
The biggest surprise about Reencle is how much compost I get on a weekly basis to add to my veggie beds. While compost isn’t expensive it is annoying to buy.
The bags are heavy to haul home and who knows exactly what is in there? I’ve discovered plastic, bits of glass, and other unwanted debris in store-bought compost.
With Reencle compost, you made it and put all the ingredients in it. Coffee grinds anyone? Worms love them!
Insider tip: If your Reencle ever does start to smell…..add coffee grounds! Helps to destroy unpleasant smells and odor.

Final thoughts on the Reencle indoor composter
The Reencle is the most fun I’ve had in a long time! It’s a machine that takes indoor food scrap composting seriously.
If you are ready to quickly turn food waste scraps into fertile garden fuel the Reencle is the ideal fit for you!
Homemade compost made by you right in your kitchen! Don’t haul heavy bags of compost home from the store. Make compost daily in your kitchen.
The Reencle is big enough to hold your daily compost but not too big that it overstays its welcome in your kitchen.
Just the ideal size. Quite the focal point in your kitchen! Visiting friends and family will surely ask you what it is and what it does.
Tell your guests how it works and all the fun YOU are having composting indoors with Reencle.
Then tell your friends and family that you WON on Raise Your Garden! Fill out the SweepWidget form below for your chance to win. Good luck all!

I would so like to win this. Our city did away with collecting our recycling, wanting us to bring it to a local park to an assigned place for it. Needless to say, this hasn’t been popular with our residents.
This would be great for those of us that live in the Tundra!
I’m a beginner gardener. I would love to win this prize. Great Christmas giveaway.
This sounds like an awesome addition to the kitchen. Thank you.
This has to be one of the best posts i have read on your blog over the years. I have been wanting one of these little composters for years and enjoyed reading about this one. My husband had a failed back surgery and thus, his limitations means maintaining an outside compost is just not possible as i cant do the turning due to an old shoulder injury so i am left with all the kitchen scraps that i can no longer turn into compost for the plants, and i miss being able to do so. these little mini composters are genius to me. ive been wondering for a couple years if they actually work, so i sat and read every word of your post, wanting insight from someone who has used one. so….thank you. This is something that i could get a lot of use from. i grow tomatoes each year in raised beds on my deck and they would love the compost this little things creates!
win.
The Reencle indoor composter sounds ideal for people who compost, but the fact it does no have a removable basket would put me off. We do not compost here as the dog will just dig more than she already does 🙂
This is awesome, such a great product for our kitchen. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
Thanks for the chance!
