I wonder if your family is similar to ours.
Because each year January becomes the month to organize our indoor spaces.
After I fail miserably at following through with the New Year’s Resolutions that I didn’t even make, I vow to get my life back on track.
Closets get cleaned. Clothes that I haven’t worn in ten years get purged. Floors get *gasp* swept and washed.
It’s also the time we evaluate what we need for the home and garden.
And there’s never been a better time to shop with the Garrett Wade Warehouse Sale in full swing! Now is the time to invest in quality home and garden items that you’ll use the rest of your life.
So if your Christmas gifts were lackluster this year, it’s time to upgrade on your own.
RYG readers get a special extra 10% off all clearance purchases.

January exists for the organized homeowner!

It’s cold here in January. As I glance out the window there’s lots of snow and ice.

At 10 degrees F., I’m not venturing outside much but that doesn’t mean my thoughts don’t turn to spring.

And I’m not passed sending Tom outside to prune! The man gets cabin fever.

Because now is the ideal time to prune certain trees and bushes while they are in their dormant stage. You never want to prune when they finally bloom, that’s insane!

Many years ago, Garrett Wade sent me some pruners to review and it’s been love ever since.

Big box stores simply don’t sell this type of quality. The selection is always lacking. The selection and quality at Garrett Wade are always both stellar.

Now is the time to determine what you own for the garden and what tools you’ll invest in for the upcoming season.

It’s also time to sharpen those garden tools and get them in top form for the warmer weather you know is coming!

January is the time to re-evalute your kitchen gadgets

While grilling seems to be the norm all summer, I like to make lots of comfort food in winter.

It’s fun to experiment in the kitchen when time isn’t as much of an issue!

I’d rather own one really quality kitchen tool than two or more inferior ones.

Less to store, too. And less waste because you’re not constantly replacing broken gadgets.

Now we like cheese. It’s delicious! But more often than not, I shred by own cheese because the price per pound is so much cheaper.

When you are shredding a pound of cheese several times a week, a quality grater set is a must-have. This set from Garrett Wade is unreal. My dream grater 3-piece set. Works like magic.

There’s a slicer and a fine and coarse grater. The coarse grater doubles as a zucchini noodle maker. Amazing results! We need lots of shredded zucchini to make bread!

And there are no words for how easy this set is to wash and store. Unlike graters I’ve owned in the past that are 3D huge, this set is flat.

They stack easily taking up so little space in my pullout drawer.

Knives that actually cut….

How many times have you made futile attempts to cut your steak with a crappy knife to your complete and utter failure?

Too many.

It’s time to invest in your dinner with quality steak knives that actually do the job.

These dishwasher safe stainless-steel steak knives will take your breath away. Cutting food is dreamy.

Like the perfect pen in hand is the ideal knife to cut. The balance of these French knives is absolutely perfect. I like a little weight to both and these knives fit the bill.

It’s such a thrill, too, to be able to present guests with “real” knives when setting the table over butter knives that mock you when you try to cut food.

And at just $14 each, I could rave on about the quality at this price point for a set of 6 knives.

January is the time to spring ahead for the gardening season

Now is the time to go through your garage and shed and evaluate what you have garden wise. What do you need? What tools should you upgrade with Garrett Wade?

If you don’t have a good set of pruners then it’s time to seize the day and get yourself a good set!

I can’t think of a gardening tool that I use more. Pruners are an everyday thing.

Maybe it has something to do with my obsession for order in the chaos of life. But I find myself snipping branches each day in season.

There’s nothing worse than wanting to snip a piece of rose off that’s been scratching you each time you brush past it and being unable to do so.

Either because your pruners are rusty or not sharp enough to do the deed.

After all, you don’t need or want 10 pairs of pruners. You just need one set that functions incredibly well.

January is the time to test that soil….

It’s always a good idea to have the local chapter of Cornell Cooperative Extensive come in and test your soil. It’s extremely helpful to know the alkalinity/acidity/pH of your soil for planting purposes.

And this is knowledge you want to glean for both the spring and fall planting seasons.

But bringing in the experts does take a bit of effort and the juggling of schedules. Not to mention cost to yourself.

A far simpler way I’ve discovered it to purchase (for a meager $46.50) a soil test kit so I can do the job.

This simple to use but efficient soil test kits gives you the pH, moisture content and soil temperature. Vital data to help you make informed decisions in regards to planting and adding amendments.

All too often, I simply “guess” at the amendments I add to my plants. Keep in mind, even organic and natural amendments can burn and harm plants if not added correctly.

This kit takes the guesswork out of the process. You will love it!

Lanterns to light up your life….

I’ve been obsessed with lanterns ever since I was small. I love light.

Lanterns and oil lamps always add that perfect delicate touch to any outdoor space. Especially a patio, deck and of course, by the pool.

Who wants to be in the dark? Besides lanterns and oil lamps help deter mosquitoes and I am a mosquito magnet.

Garrett Wade has a lovely selection of oil lamps, lanterns, and hurricane lamps to adorn your outdoor spaces in style.

Not to mention safety. Lighting illuminates pathways at night keeping your feet on track and helps to deter unwanted intruders. (Just not the squirrel kind!)

Fashioned out of materials such as brass and copper, Garrett Wade lanterns do not disappoint in either style or quality.

And we keep coming back to the quality factor. Garrett Wade sells quality goods to last a lifetime.

Last thoughts with a watering can…

When is a watering can more than just a watering can? When you use it everyday.

Tom uses this watering can every single day. So do I.

And even when it’s not in use, this copper watering can is a functional showstopper. It looks so elegant on my dining room table. Quite the centerpiece!

I use this copper watering can to water the gizzillion plants scattered about my house. Tom uses it to fill the humidifiers and the cast iron pot on our woodburning stove. And he was using it daily to fill the Christmas tree.

It boils down to this.

That it cost just pennies to use this watering can each time. Even less if it becomes a family heirloom which no doubt it will. Which kid gets it? Decisions. Decisions.

But that’s exactly how it works with Garrett Wade. Buy it for now. Use it for life. Then pass it on for the next generation to use.

Don’t you agree that it’s better to own less but what you do own is quality?

And that’s what so great about the Garrett Wade Warehouse sale that lasts until the end of February 2019!

Because the only thing better than Garrett Wade is Garrett Wade on sale!
