Both the Crab Apple and the Mystic Merlin bird feeders are open at the top. This makes them incredibility easy to fill.

4.) For the sake of insect-eating birds, such as hummingbirds, grosbeaks and bluebirds, skip the pesticides and embrace the bugs. All the hungry neighborhood birds naturally control unwanted insect populations. And think of the protein they are getting!

5.) Help mother birds, especially now in spring by leaving out eggshells, which gives them a calcium boost. Rinse the shell, lay it out to dry and crunch it up before sprinkling around your feeders. Blue jays in particular seem to like them.

My suggestion is to invest in both the pink and purple crab apple bird feeders, even though I think the Mystic Merlin feeder is more of a blue?

In fact, a shepherds hook with two hangers is ideal. This way you can use one for seed or mealworms and the other can be used as a jelly feeder.

When I “ahem”…retire and move south, I will grow a heliconia plant outdoors. They don’t make the best indoor plant and I know the lighting in my home will never be sufficient for such a tropical plant. Not to mention my humidity issues.

Yet I feel slightly hypocritical because I’m currently attempting to grow my first bird of paradise plant which asks for similar conditions.
