Feed the birds…
It shocked me just how serious Tom started taking bird feeding/bird watching in the last couple of years. Now our kids are swooping in for some action.
We try not to be shallow by just drawing in the cardinals, blue jays and yellow/gold finches, but they are striking to behold! The finches in particular are just so dang cute.
It’s fun having bird feeders in various bold colors. Strange how some birds are drawn to the pink and others to the blue.
Actually….to get all technical on you, it’s sensation pink and blueberry pie blue. Aptly named, they are the exact shade of pink and blue you’d want in a bird feeder.
Nevermind. You’ll just have to see the bird feeders in person.
And let us not forget this fact: Desert Steel products are made out of rust-resistant steel that will stand the test of time.
Your color will not fade drawing in those birds for many years to come!
Bird watching in your own backyard!
But enjoying birds in the privacy of my backyard? Ideal. Especially if a hammock is involved. And we all seem to be on “Staycations” now anyhow.
Bird watching and bird feeding is a relatively cheap hobby that is both relaxing and fun. It can take a lot of time or almost none at all.
Try it solo or as new activity with the whole family. You choose what types of birds to attract with whatever seed you buy. And of course the birds will vary greatly by your geographical area.
But feeding the birds with Desert Steel is the best bang for your buck because you can have it all!
Functionality marries these beautifully elegant bird feeders that display equally well as sculptures of yard art.

Desert Steel squirrel proofing tip: Add cayenne pepper/chili powder to seed, birds can’t taste it and squirrels hate it.
Personally, I find that I am willing and able to feed just about anything or anyone that comes into my yard with the exception of teenage boys. (I have to draw the line somewhere.)
So squirrels don’t bother me all that much.
They’re kind of cute and they are hungry, too!
Nestle your coneflower bird feeders in your native plants…
Birds love it when you plant evergreen trees and shrubs like hollies as they make superb homes for the birds in winter.
This natural shelter is greatly appreciated. Include a wide range of plants including annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and grasses.
The seed heads of perennials and ornamental grasses draw ground-feeding birds and supply them cover as they avoid those cats. Think black-eyed Susan, coneflower, coreopsis and salvia.
And just like us, they love fruit and berries and will be thrilled with any apple or pear trees that you plant. Blueberries or raspberries are a big win for them as well.
Research what grows naturally in your region to score with the birds. The more natives you plant, the more insects you draw in increasing the varieties of songbirds that will visit.
America the beautiful…
Desert Steel products are lovingly handmade in Wichita, KS. The process starts with a milled sheet of galvanized steel and then it’s cut, bent, folded and welded together.
The bold colors are not from paint but are finished with a patina, a chemical treatment that oxidizes the steel to give it a green color.
So unlike paint, this color will not alter or fade over time. The colors are so bright and bold! Gorgeous.
What draws me to Desert Steel is the unparalleled uniqueness of their designs and fantastic product lines.
The craftsmanship. The color. We’re not taking about discount store wares here.
Desert Steel fashions and molds quality pieces which you’ll cherish for many years as landscape art!
