Talking with Ann over the phone cleared up a few fertilizer mysteries for me. I learned so much from our quick chat! You will, too! 

I invested some serious time investigating various fertilizers and different companies.

Neptune’s Harvest Organic Kelp Meal (1-0-2) is dried and ground Rock Weed (Ascophyllum Nodosum), which grows in the cold clean waters along the New England coast, and is known as the best marine plant available for agriculture today.

Now I know what you’re thinking….but what does this fabulous soil conditioner smell like? Ground up seaweed. Go figure. Kelp smells and looks like kelp.

Kelp meal should be tilled in the soil before planting or can be top-dressed, incorporated into potting soils, seed beds and composting material.

But yes, to answer your question precise application amounts are given for your consideration right on the bucket. No worries!

Next time. Squirrels. Rabbits. Beware. You have met your match. The shell will cut their pads so they’ll leave my bulbs alone.

Time to give those squirrels and rabbits the heads-up that it’s not fine to dig up and eat bulbs. Just one more benefit to using crab & lobster shell in the garden.

And with all the extra time Tom has had with being off from work, he’s been saving our bulbs by sprinkling the crab & lobster shell around the bulbs.

​High calcium fertilizers have been shown to benefit bulbs and flowers, too making them bigger and more vibrant in color!

Neptune’s Harvest organic crab & lobster shell is an excellent dry organic plant food, containing Calcium (17%) and Magnesium (1%).

Big bonus spin? Weeds hate calcium. So when you feed your plants crab shell loaded in calcium, you’re nourishing your plants while discouraging weed growth. Yay!

Crab shell should be worked in the soil before planting, or top-dressed. But if you’ve already planted, just sprinkle on top of the soil and around plants and work in with your fingers.

Got slugs? Me too. Crab shell discourages slugs big time. They simply do not like it because it cuts them as they slime along.

And crab & lobster shell might just save your tomatoes this year from blossom-end rot and blight, your roses from black spot and powdery mildew on your squash.

​It can be applied to lawns with a broadcast spreader showing amazing results with a healthy and thriving green lawn. 

The crab & lobster shell works great with the kelp meal we’ve been talking about as well! 

Again, crab & lobster shell is not a complete fertilizer and should be used in conjunction with the fish & seaweed blend for best results.

Not only do they eat vegetables and fruits, but while they are in my garden, they stomp on plants virtually destroying them.

But deer are vegetarians. So these fish/lobster/crab products are a huge deer deterrent.
