Magnolia Bird Feeder for the 2nd place winner!
But what I like best is how realistic it looks, it’s a molded replica of a magnolia and is extremely lifelike. Of course it’s a much bigger version of the bloom, but instead of just three or fours weeks of enjoyment, I get to savor and smile over it all year long! And the birds probably prefer the feeder as they get fed all winter too!
What’s so fabulous about the Desert Steel Velvet Queen?
Last year, I actually accomplished this goal. Well….somewhat. Tom ordered me these seeds (okay, they were from a sketchy website) but the promises were unbelievable. Gullible as I am, I thought the plan was destined to succeed. I rose at daylight the day we were leaving for a weeks vacation and planted the seeds just as suggested. Nope. No one. I waited a few days more and kept checking – still nothing.
Final verdict? None of the seeds actually sprouted and I never got a single plant. I attribute this to two problems 1.) the soil is clay (hence the raised beds in the first place!) and 2.) the seeds never got any water since I was out of town. The assumption was that it would surely rain but it never did, in fact, in hardly rained at all last summer.
But my Velvet Queen Bird Feeder never disappoints! It’ll be back year after year regardless of soil and weather conditions. It’s incredibly realistic looking and mirrors a real sunflower in just about every respect. These are Tom’s favorite feeders for sure!
