Build A Cheap Raised Bed From Pallets

Sure, we spent a boatload to build our raised beds. But you don’t have to.
Here’s how our Central New York friends, Josh and Beth built raised beds out of pallets for cheap.
[Almost nothing!] And guess what…..you can too!
Or at least go on their picture journey.
Sometimes when life throws us a curve ball it forces us to new heights.

Josh’s wife Beth had knee surgery but could not get onto the ground due to ACL repair.

And Beth likes gardening and Josh wanted to make not only raised beds but really raised beds.

This way, bending over wasn’t as issue at all.

The pallets were free and so Josh popped out all the nails and stacked all the pieces up.

If you’re looking for free pallets, they’re pretty easy to find.

If you don’t see signs out where you are, check out Craigslist. Businesses are constantly throwing them out too.

A little assembly required!

Josh put plastic on the inside of the boxes and gravel and rocks on the bottom for drainage.

These steps also keep mold from forming in the boxes. We love the trellis on the back end.

Grow vertical to save space.

Josh and Beth have not had a problem with small animals such as rabbits because they are so high off the ground.

If you have a fence like us, you know that rabbits can squeeze themselves under the fence right into your garden.

These boxes are extremely heavy and if they ever move they’re going to have to stay put for the next owners. Lucky them!

Depending on your schedule, maybe building a raised bed out of pallets won’t get done in the immediate future.
Don’t have time to build a raised bed? I totally get it, I just had my 4th kid! Why not treat yourself this year and buy some raised beds?
What’s on your to-do list?
